Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Tool & Die Design
- Design tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and moulds based on product drawings.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings using CAD software.
- Review product designs for manufacturability.
- Modify designs to improve productivity and quality.
- Tool Manufacturing
- Manufacture tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures as per approved drawings.
- Operate conventional and CNC machines for tool making.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy and quality during manufacturing.
- Assemble tool components and perform trial runs.
- Tool Maintenance
- Carry out preventive maintenance of production tools.
- Repair damaged or worn-out dies and tools.
- Replace worn components to minimize downtime.
- Maintain maintenance records for all tools.
- Die Setting & Support
- Support production during die installation and changeover.
- Ensure proper alignment and functioning of dies.
- Troubleshoot tooling-related issues during production.
- Coordinate with production for smooth operation.
- Tool Improvement
- Analyze recurring tooling failures.
- Recommend design improvements for longer tool life.
- Reduce cycle time through tooling modifications.
- Improve productivity and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Quality Control
- Inspect manufactured tools using measuring instruments.
- Verify dimensions against engineering drawings.
- Ensure tools meet customer and internal quality standards.
- Support first-piece approval during production trials.
- Calibration & Inspection
- Maintain gauges and measuring instruments.
- Coordinate calibration of precision instruments.
- Ensure measuring equipment is accurate and serviceable.
- Inventory Management
- Maintain inventory of tool steel, inserts, spare parts, and consumables.
- Monitor minimum stock levels.
- Raise purchase requisitions for tooling materials.
- Maintain tool identification and traceability.
- Documentation
- Maintain tool history cards.
- Record maintenance activities.
- Update tooling drawings and revision history.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain tooling issue and return records.
- Continuous Improvement
- Participate in Kaizen, Lean, and 5S activities.
- Identify opportunities to reduce tooling costs.
- Standardize tooling practices.
- Support process optimization initiatives.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow machine safety procedures.
- Use PPE while operating machines.
- Maintain housekeeping in the Tool Room.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies.
- Handle cutting tools and lifting equipment safely.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Design, and Purchase departments.
- Support new product development activities.
- Participate in production meetings for tooling-related issues.
- Assist during customer audits and internal audits.
